We’re here to help.

Do I need a referral to become a patient?

Yes. Rheumatology Associates requires a referral from a licensed healthcare provider (such as a primary care physician, internist, or specialist) to schedule a new patient appointment with our rheumatologists. This ensures we receive your relevant medical history, labs, and imaging to provide appropriate care from the start.

Our clinic specializes in the diagnosis and management of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions that affect the joints, muscles, and connective tissues. Common conditions include:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Lupus (SLE)
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Sjögren’s Syndrome
  • Scleroderma
  • Gout
  • Vasculitis
  • Polymyalgia Rheumatica
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Osteoporosis

You may benefit from a rheumatology consultation if you experience:

  • Persistent joint pain or swelling
  • Morning stiffness lasting over 30 minutes
  • Fatigue, fever, or unexplained symptoms
  • Skin rashes, mouth sores, or dry eyes/mouth (in combination with other symptoms)
  • Abnormal autoimmune markers in lab tests (e.g., ANA, RF, anti-CCP)

Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent long-term joint or organ damage.

Your first visit includes a thorough review of your symptoms, medical history, a physical exam (with a focus on joints and soft tissues), and a discussion of next steps. Your rheumatologist may order blood work or imaging to aid in diagnosis. The visit typically lasts 45–60 minutes.

Once we receive a complete referral from your provider, our scheduling team will reach out to you within 1–2 business days. Appointment availability varies depending on urgency and provider schedules, but we do our best to accommodate all new patients in a timely manner.

Common tests your rheumatologist may request include:

  • Blood work (e.g., ESR, CRP, ANA, rheumatoid factor, anti-CCP, etc.)
  • Imaging (X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI) to assess joint or organ involvement
  • Urinalysis or additional specialized labs based on suspected condition

We will explain the purpose of each test and review results with you in detail.

Yes. If you’ve already seen a rheumatologist and would like a second opinion, we’re happy to review your case—especially if your symptoms are evolving, not improving with current treatment, or you're facing a complex diagnosis.

A referral from your current provider is still required.

We understand that things come up. Please contact us at least 48 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule your appointment. No-shows or last-minute cancellations may be subject to a fee.
